SITUAŢIE ÎNGRIJORĂTOARE LA UMF TÂRGU MUREŞ
Pentru cititorii şi ascultătorii ştirilor româneşti nu mai este nici o surpriză faptul că „democraţia" noastră e tot mai originală. Nu mai departe de ceea ce se întâmplă pe scena politică, cu privire la pretenţiile partenerilor de guvernare. Mă refer aici la condiţia pusă de UDMR, de înfiinţare a unei universităţi maghiare la Târgu Mureş, pentru a sta la guvernare alături de UNPR şi PDL. Este aberantă nu doar solicitarea în sine, ci şi modul de a forţa mâna executivului trecând peste independenţa universitară, peste ceea ce chiar legea învăţământului stabileşte. Epopeea „Cartei universitare" a UMF Târgu Mureş este încă un exemplu impardonabil de ingerinţă nepermisă a Ministerului Învăţământului în treburile interne ale instituţiei. Pe lângă tergiversarea aprobării de către forul superior şi prin impunerea introducerii în textul Cartei a unor prevederi neavenite, s-a procedat la tot felul de tertipuri nedemne de un asemenea nivel, indiferent care a fi fost presiunile. Pentru cei ce nu cunosc este nimerit să spunem că s-au făcut presiuni asupra conducerii şi senatului UMF începând de la Abasadadorul Ungariei în România până la forurile internaţionale, mediul academic din ţara vecină şi prietenă, mass media maghiară, de aici şi de aiuria şi, bineînţeles a populaţiei paşice maghiare care, la drept vorbind, nici nu-i păsa de ce, cum şi în ce limbă învaţă studenţii. Faptul că ani la rând România a şcolarizat medici, ingineri, profesori şi mulţi alţi specialişti pentru Ungaria şi preabunul occident nu mai este un secret pentru nimeni. Cei mai buni în branşă sunt şi vor fi ademeniţi de bani, uitând faptul că poporul român, în integralitatea lui, a plătit şi mai plăteşte facturile pentru învăţământ. Nu-i puţin lucru pentru o ţară săracă. Felul şi bunătatea noastră i-au îmbogăţit pe alţii, fără să ne punem nici o clipă întrebarea: cum fac alţii în situaţii similare? Ei bine, plătesc! Nimic nu e de pomană. Studile superioare şi aprofundate, în toate ţările civilizate costă enorm. Noi cheltuim pentru alţii din sărăcia noastră. Depre aceste lucruri vom mai discuta pentru că trebuie ca opinia publică să-şi spună cuvântul iar ministrul de atunci, Funeriu şi semnatarii notelor să poată da socoteală. Rezumând situaţia putem spune că, în conformitate cu Legea Învăţământului, Carta Universitară a UMF Târgu Mureş, este aprobată tacit având în vedere faptul că aprobarea a fost trimisă după expirarea celor 30 de zile, stipulate în Lege. Indiferent câte voci s-ar ridica şi câte pretenţii s-ar invoca, la Târgu Mureş, încă, nu poate fi vorba de universitate în liba maghiară. Nu se îndeplinesc condiţiile normative iar autoritatea de reglementare, ARACIS-ul doar încălcând legea românească poate aproba aşa ceva. Oare faptul că actualul ministru Cătalin Babă este la a doua vizită la UMF Târgu Mureş, însoţit de secretarul de stat Kiraly G. Andras, la mai puţin de o lună de la investire este o întâmplare?. În data de 28 februarie s-a mulţumit să declare, cu privire la prezenţa domniei sale: „- Este o întâlnire la nivel academic. Nu voi face declaraţii presei, nici azi nici mâine!" În condiţiile în care toată presa stă cu ochii pe UMF, domniile lor se mulţumesc să ridice din umeri sau să dea cu tifla. Chiar nu au nimic de ascuns? Dedesupturile acestei „afaceri" trebuie să iasă la iveală şi să fie cunoscute de întrega lume, chiar şi de cetăţenii maghiari, cărora li se supun minciuni. De ce nu au curaj liderii de opinie să spună situţia de la UMF? De ce e nevoie de tertipuri şi de fel şi fel de neaveniţi ce mişună pe coridoarele facultăţilor ca să agite spiritele? Oare nu-şi pune nimeni întrebarea: cine este în spatele acestor mârşăvii?

| The 478th plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee, to be held on February 22-23, will address civil society's main concerns about the current economic crisis and its social consequences. On Wednesday, President José Manuel Barroso is going to explain the European Commission's position on the Europe 2020 Strategy and outline the preparation of the Spring European Council. President Barroso and EESC President Staffan Nilsson will sign the renewed EC/EESC Cooperation Protocol. Also on Wednesday, President Nilsson will mark the mid-term of his mandate and look at challenges ahead. On Thursday, the Vice-President of the European Commission Joaquín Almunia will discuss the reform of State aid with the EESC. Venue: European Commission's Charlemagne building: meeting room S3, 1040 Brussels Start: 14:30, Wednesday, February 22 Streaming: http://www.eesc.europa.eu/?i=portal.en.events-and-activities-478th-plenary-session-live-stream The opinions and topics to be voted at the upcoming plenary session include: Annual Growth Survey 2012 With a view to the Spring European Council, the Committee discusses its opinion on the Annual Growth Survey (AGS) and highlights its priorities for action at both national and EU levels for 2012. The need for forward-looking, growth-enhancing reforms and for these to be concretely implemented in all member states is emphasised. Additionally, the Committee reiterates the necessity for all three aspects of growth - smart, sustainable and inclusive - to be interlinked and mutually reinforcing. Concern regarding grave austerity measures within the AGS is expressed in the draft opinion. The opinion suggests a carefully crafted balance between fiscal consolidation and growth. A Committee consensus, concerning the European semester, purports the need for full involvement of organised civil society. How to involve civil society in financial regulation Inadequate regulation and supervision of financial markets are considered main causes of the financial crisis. Consequently, this matter should be recognised as a major concern to civil society, whose interests are largely under-represented in the sector. The EESC is well positioned to rectify the lack of civil society involvement since it includes representatives of financial industry associations, consumer organisations and trade unions. The opinion not only encourages European institutions and member states to count on civil society; it urges civil society to make their voices heard and calls upon the financial industry and other actors, including academia, think tanks and media to also play their part. Growth and sovereign debt in the EU: two innovative proposals The EESC considers the Euro problem to be primarily political rather than economic. Therefore, the solution lies in changing economic policies, boosting competitiveness and consolidating fairness, solidarity and cohesion. The EESC's proposal advocates the introduction of two complementary but distinct EU bonds: Union bonds for stabilising debt and Eurobonds for recovery and growth. Additionally, a share of the net inflows into Eurobonds is suggested to be used to finance a European venture capital fund. Measurable EU targets for specific groups in employment policy required In the coming years Europe will navigate an exceedingly fraught employment situation. Austerity measures pose risks of increasing poverty and social exclusion, affecting the most disadvantaged groups, especially young people. The EESC claims that, despite the crisis, national and EU funding for employment should be maintained or even increased, where needed. Tackling unemployment should take high priority in the new guidelines of the European Council. A speedy, targeted and coordinated investment should be carried out to ensure a high employment impact, accompanied by measurable targets for women, young people, older workers and other vulnerable groups. A Convention to protect the social acquis in upcoming treaty amendments The EESC welcomes Commission and Member States’ efforts to improve economic and budgetary coordination for the EU. However, the EESC dismisses the current structure of the European Economic Governance, as it primarily focuses on economic policy, leaving social aspects aside. Converse to and in contrast with EU2020 goals the austerity measures will have negative repercussions for access to and quality of services, and could damage growth, employment and social inclusion. The posed risk assumes that the increasing national and regional disparities can reduce economic and social cohesion and in turn constitute a threat to European integration. The EESC stresses the importance of assessing the social impact of the new economic governance rules and calls for a Convention to be set up with representatives of European and national parliaments, social partners and the EESC to establish a strategy for securing social progress during future treaty amendments. Trans-European network "Trans-European network" is likely to be the buzz-phrase of the February plenary session, as the Committee intends to adopt a range of opinions on telecoms, transport and energy networks in Europe. It will tackle the financing of these networks head-on and is expected to embrace the idea of EU bonds for infrastructure projects. "This should trigger a multiplier effect by leveraging the public and private capital required for investment needs estimated at EUR 1 000 billion", said Raymond Hencks (Luxembourg, Workers' Group), rapporteur for one of the opinions. La 14 februarie 2012, la Palatul Buckingham, a avut loc ceremonia de înnobilare prin ridicare în rang de cavaler a domnului George Iacobescu, pe care Majestatea Sa Regina Elisabeta a II-a a Marii Britanii l-a inclus, la 31 decembrie 2011, în lista de personalităţi britanice ce s-au remarcat pe parcursul anului 2011.
Sir George Iacobescu, unul dintre cei mai de succes oameni de afaceri români şi britanici, este preşedinte şi director executiv al Grupului Canary Wharf, al doilea centru financiar al Londrei. A primit titlul de Cavaler (Knight Bachelor) pentru aportul său în slujba activităţilor caritabile, comunităţii şi industriei serviciilor financiare, devenind astfel primul român distins de Regina Elisabeta a II-a Marii Britanii cu un astfel de titlu care dă dreptul la folosirea apelativului "Sir" înaintea prenumelui.
Acordarea acestei distincţii este, fără îndoială, o confirmare la superlativ a muncii, seriozităţii şi inteligenţei unui român de excepţie şi un motiv de mândrie pentru comunitatea românească din Marea Britanie. Ambasada României este recunoscătoare tuturor românilor din Regatul Unit care îşi reprezintă Ţara cu cinste, distincţie şi caracter.

The Tricycle Cinema in Kilburn, North London has included a special screenings of the Romanian film, Morgen as part of its International Film Season. The season celebrates the International submissions to the Foreign Language Film category at the 2012 Oscars.
Nelu, lead character of Morgen, works as a security guard in the local supermarket in Salonta, a small town on the Romanian-Hungarian border and a key crossing point for illegal immigrants to Hungary and the West. For Nelu, each day is the same. Fishing in the river at dawn, then work, and finally home with his wife.
One morning, Nelu “fishes” something different out of the river: a Turkish man trying to cross the border… The two men are unable to communicate with words, but Nelu provides the illegal emigrant with clothes, food, shelter and a far-fetched promise to help him accomplish his journey.
Following the screening, lead actor Andras Hathazi, will take part in a Q&A.

| The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) hosted a conference on sustainable development on 7 and 8 February. The outcome of the conference debates is a set of recommendations from European civil society to EU and global leaders, ahead of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in EESC president Staffan Nilsson explained that "the Rio+20 summit will not solve the world's problems overnight; however it will be able to harness the will to act and give new momentum to sustainable development". He urged political leaders to agree at the Rio+20 summit on additional measures to improve effective civil society involvement in reform processes and encouraged civil society to take global responsibility and continue pushing for a Rio+20 outcome capable of meeting the challenges the planet is facing. "Civil society's thinking and action for the The two days featured many prominent speakers, including Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for the Environment, Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development, and Brice Lalonde, Executive Coordinator of the UN Rio+20 Conference. Mr Lalonde praised the Committee for its work of channelling European civil society's requests and underlined EESC members' efforts to raise public awareness about sustainable development and climate change. He noted that the - urges European negotiators to place much greater emphasis on the social dimension of sustainable development; - stresses that eradicating poverty and securing access to enough food, clean water and sustainable energy for all must be a top priority on the - calls on Member States to commit to sustainable development and reduce their resource consumption; - calls on political leaders to commit to a green economy roadmap, with clear goals and monitoring mechanisms; - calls for the creation of a new United Nations agency for the environment. Comunicat Conferinta Young Diplo
Conferinţa YoungDiplo Londra - Politica Externă a României într-o lume multipolară
Ambasada României la Londra/ La 4 februarie 2012 a avut loc, în prezenţa ES Dr Ion Jinga, Ambasadorul României în Marea Britanie, prima Conferinţă a Societăţii Globale a Tinerilor Români (GRASP) organizată la Londra, în cadrul programului "Young Diplo".
Evenimentul, intitulat "Politica Externă a României într-o lume multipolară", a avut loc în spaţiile de protocol ale Ambasadei României la Londra din 1 Belgrave Square, fiind realizat cu sprijinul ICR –Londra şi al Fundaţiei Raţiu. Parteneri media ai evenimentului au fost : Radio France International, Radio România Actualităţi, Radio România Internaţional, Adevărul, ŞtiriONG, România Pozitivă, Lume Bună, Foreign Policy, Ziarul Românesc.
Conferinţa a debutat cu un cuvânt de bun venit adresat de Eliza Gheorghe, coordonatorul filialei londoneze a GRASP, urmat de discursul ambasadorului Ion Jinga si de interventii ale domnului Dorian Branea, Directorul ICR-Londra şi domnului Nicolae Raţiu, Preşedintele Fundaţiei Raţiu.
Programul a continuat cu două paneluri de dezbatere pe tema "Parteneriatele euro-atlantice ale României, evoluție, dinamica actuală și proiecții" şi, respectiv, "Parteneriatele României cu puterile emergente din blocul BRICS, perspective bilaterale, regionale și globale". In primul panel au avut intervenţii ES Dr Emil Brix, Ambasadorul Austriei la Londra, Domnul Dan Berendel, Director General al Master Chem Oil, domnul Hugh Ward, şeful departamentului de pregătire şi simulare al SAAB UK, şi domnul Seth Johnston, căpitan în armata SUA şi doctorand la Universitatea Oxford. Discuţiile au fost moderate de Dr Marius Turda, profesor asociat la Universitatea Oxford Brookes. Cel de-al doilea panel a inclus prezentări susţinute de domnul C. Rajasekhar, Ministru consilier în cadrul Înaltului Comisariat al Indiei la Londra, doamna Simona Manea, lector la Universitatea Birmingham, doamna Holly Pattenden, analist Statoil, şi domnul Tim Lamb, consultant brokeraj, Trayport.
In debutul discursului său intitulat „Politica externă a României – Priorități pentru 2012, Ambasadorul României a spus: "Sunt încântat să vă spun bun venit la această primă conferinţă organizată de Asociaţia Globală a Tinerilor Profesionişti la Londra. Ne bucurăm să o găzduim cel puţin din două motive: după patru ediţii de succes ale Conferinţei Studenţilor, Profesorilor şi Cercetătorilor din Marea Britanie, ne aflăm astăzi aici pentru un eveniment dedicat tinerilor profesionişti, eforturilor şi aspiraţiilor acestora precum şi dorinţei lor de a-şi aduce contribuţia la dezvoltarea societăţii româneşti prin stimularea dialogului pe teme de actualitate. Un al doilea motiv este că evenimentul demonstrează coeziunea elitelor comunităţii româneşti din Marea Britanie, valoare adăugată pentru obiectivul promovării imaginii României în străinătate". A prezentat apoi priorităţile de politică externă ale României, precum şi obiectivele Ambasadei României la Londra pentru anul 2012.
După încheierea dezbaterilor in plen, participanţii au alcătuit trei grupuri de lucru care au discutat teme legate de diplomaţie, energie şi securitate. Conferința s-a încheiat cu o sesiune foto „Dear Romania" în care participanții au putut transmite gânduri constructive pentru şi despre România.
Despre programul Young Diplo
Programul Young Diplo îşi propune să contribuie la formarea viitoarei generaţii de experţi români în relaţii internaţionale, prin facilitarea dialogului cu actualii specialişti în acest domeniu, prin cursuri de specializare, prin organizarea unor stagii de practică relevate şi prin promovarea şi publicarea lucrărilor de cercetare ale acestor tineri în presa de specialitate din România. Conferinţa de la Londra va fi urmată de o conferinţă similară la Bucureşti, la 31 martie 2012, aceste evenimente având ca scop strângerea de informaţii pentru o şcoală de vară de trei săptămâni, cu instructori de la universităţi de prestigiu: Harvard, Columbia, Georgetown, Oxford, London School of Economics.
